CHULSOO'S WORLD
BEFORE YOU ENTER
Opening this door may change the performance you imagined.
Here, you will find thoughts I never shared onstage.
They are not the definitive meaning of the work. But once you know them, you may never see the performance in quite the same way again.
Would you still like to enter?

Isn't This Good as It Is?
While preparing the performance, a thought came to me.
Someone who plays the music of gut rituals in Tongyeong, someone who studied haegeum at school, people who studied in Canada and the United States, someone who has made music in Korea.
And the people who have gathered to listen to that music.
The time they have lived through, the music they like, and the feelings they have at this moment will all be different.
Some may have liked the performance, while others may not have liked it much.
I find this space interesting with all of that included.
I am not trying to give anyone permission to feel differently.
That scene simply looks beautiful to me.
I am more drawn to the sight of people with different feelings happening to gather in the same space than to a scene in which everyone is moved in the same way.
The uncomfortable parts remain uncomfortable.
The things we do not understand about each other will still be there.
But I do not particularly want to change that scene.
Traditional Korean music as it is.
Jazz as it is.
You as you are.
Me as I am.
But isn't this good as it is?
