CHULSOO'S WORLD
BEFORE YOU ENTER
Opening this door may change the performance you imagined.
Here, you will find thoughts I never shared onstage.
They are not the definitive meaning of the work. But once you know them, you may never see the performance in quite the same way again.
Would you still like to enter?

One Person, Two Times
Two dancers appear in BARI.
But they portray one person.
The young Bari and Bari in old age.
정금희 and 변상아 are mother and daughter in real life.
I thought it would be good for these two people to portray different times in a single person's life.
The resemblance of a real mother and daughter, and the years between them. These would become one person's past and present.
The older Bari looks at the young Bari.
Time already lived comes face to face with time not yet lived.
I wanted to create a scene in which times overlapped in that way.
Life seems to flow only forward, but we often return to places in our past. We make similar choices, repeat the same relationships, and sometimes live again the lives we thought we had escaped.
I thought of that repetition as karma.
But after the performance, I learned that it had not been clear enough to the audience that the two Baris were the same person.
It was a premise I had taken entirely for granted.
What I knew and what could be seen onstage were different.
